You’ve made it! Whether you’ve just arrived or are settling in, welcome to your new life in Spain. Now, it’s time to adjust, explore, and start enjoying everything this experience has to offer. This month, we’re sharing helpful tips to make your first few weeks smoother — and a lot more fun.
UNDERSTANDING THE SPANISH WAY OF LIFE
Adjusting to a new culture takes time, but here’s what you need to know to feel at home faster:
Schedules Are Different
Lunch is around 2–3pm, dinner after 9pm
Many shops close mid-day and all-day Sunday
Tip: Do your errands before Saturday evening!
Public Transport Is Excellent
Get your Abono Joven for unlimited travel
Use apps like EMT Madrid, Citymapper, and Renfe Cercanías
Tip: Night buses run after the Metro closes at 1:30am
Healthcare Made Simple
Use private insurance networks
If you are from Europe bring your EHIC Card
Pharmacies are helpful for non-emergencies
Tip: We can help translate or book appointments if needed!
Pay with Your Phone Everywhere
Apple Pay, Google Pay, and contactless cards are widely accepted
Cash is rarely needed but good to carry just in case
Tip: Avoid ATMs with extra fees — look for your bank's
Cultural Tips to Keep in Mind
Two kisses to greet (socially), smaller personal space
Dress nicely, even for casual outings
Tipping is optional but appreciated
Tip: Don’t be shy — people appreciate the effort to speak Spanish
