Dear students and friends!
As your journey to Spain is about to start, preparation is key! To ensure a smooth transition, here’s what to pack, what paperwork to bring, and the first steps to take once you arrive.
WHAT TO PACK
· Important Documents: Passport, visa (if applicable), health insurance papers, and—if you're from Europe—the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). School documents already notarized and apostilled for your homologation and all type of documents you will need for the administrative procedures once in Spain.
· Medications: If you take prescription medication, bring enough to last until you can arrange a doctor’s visit in Spain. Some medications may require special authorization to obtain locally.
· Essential Items: Comfortable shoes for exploring, weather-appropriate clothing, your favorite pillow, and a universal adapter for your electronics.
FIRST STEPS IN SPAIN
· Administrative Procedures:
o Empadronamiento (Residency Registration): Required for many official processes. Register at your local municipal office.
o TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero): If you’re from outside the EU, apply for your residence permit upon arrival.
· Transportation: Get your public transport card for easy travel in your city. Each region may have its own system, such as the Madrid Travel Card.
· Banking: Opening a Spanish bank account is useful for daily expenses. Bankinter Young Account is a great option for students, offering simple setup and benefits.
· Phone & SIM Card: If your current provider doesn’t offer affordable roaming, consider getting a local Spanish SIM upon arrival.
