Whether you're planning your move to Spain or have already been living here for a while, this blog is for you. Each month, we’ll share practical tips, updates, and advice to help you make the most of your time as an international student in Spain, from navigating paperwork to discovering local life.

JUST ARRIVED OR ARRIVING SOON?

Moving to a new country is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. If you’re in the final stages of preparing your move to Spain, here are a few essentials to keep in mind:

  • Documents to bring: Make sure you have printed and digital copies of your visa, university acceptance letter, health insurance, passport, and accommodation details.

  • Finding a place to live: If you're moving to Spain, it's important to understand rental contracts, local neighborhoods, and what to expect in terms of prices and conditions. If you need support during your search, we’re here to help.

  • First steps in Spain: Within your first few weeks, you’ll need to register your address (empadronamiento), apply for your TIE (foreigner’s ID card), open a bank account, and get a local SIM card.

  • Useful apps: Apps like Google Maps, Moovit (public transport), Glovo (delivery), Uber (transport and delivery), and your bank's app will make life easier from day one.

  • Cultural tips: Expect a slower pace of life, late mealtimes, and a lot of paperwork. Patience is your best friend here!

ALREADY LIVING IN SPAIN?

If you've already been here for a few months or even years, you're probably past the initial adjustment phase. But that doesn’t mean there aren't still things to learn or improve. Here are a few ideas:

  • TIE renewal: Don’t wait until the last minute. Start the renewal process at least 60 days before your card expires.

  • Part-time work: If your visa allows it, you might be eligible to work part-time. Some students find jobs in hospitality, tutoring, or internships.

  • Language learning: Even if you’ve been here a while, improving your Spanish will open new doors and make everyday life easier.

  • Finding a new place to live: If you're changing flats or moving closer to your university or internship, it's important to understand rental contracts, local neighborhoods, and what to expect in terms of prices and conditions. If you need support during your search, we’re here to help.

  • Explore more: Spain has so much to offer beyond your university city. Weekend trips to smaller towns or nature spots are affordable and enriching.
